What is new on the Raspberry Pi 3?
The brand new Raspberry Pi 3, released on 29th February represents a massive leap forward in the Raspberry Pi series of computers. The all new next generation ARMv8 is a powerful 64 bit quad core processor, running at 1.2GHz and backed up with 1GB RAM. With integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (low energy) quick connection to wireless networks and peripherals is now possible without the need for an external adaptor. Power management on board has also been upgraded and can now handle up to a powerful 2.5A allowing you to power more on the four USB ports, limiting the need for a powered USB hub. The updates in this 3rd generation of Raspberry Pi really bring the board to a new level and opens up IoT possibilities without the need for extra hardware. All of these upgrades haven’t affected the Pi’s notably small footprint – meaning that the Pi 3 is still kept within the same form factor as the previous board – more power, more features – but the same compact size.

What is Raspberry Pi?
The Raspberry Pi is an inexpensive complete computer. When it is connected to a display, it can transform any TV screen or monitor into a computer programming station. It is also great for connecting to other devices such as electronic components or a HD camera. The GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) both handles and displays recorded HD video to show via the HDMI out port. It facilitates audio-visual output via the Raspberry Pi’s 3.5mm jack to connect to headphones, speakers or perhaps a TV screen.

The typical audience for the Raspberry Pi are young people or beginners who have a desire to learn more about what they can build with the technology. The operating system is downloaded using the instructions from the Raspberry Pi website onto a microSD card. Depending on the system you choose, it can then be used as a typical desktop-centric computer for programming and development. Other software packages facilitate embedded applications like playing HD video and for browsing.

What is NOOBS?
NOOBS is the recommended software for your Raspberry Pi because it gives you a selection of operating systems to install. This 16 GB microSD comes with the NOOBS software preloaded gives you a hassle-free way to set up your operating systems and start to enjoy experimenting with your Raspberry Pi. If you use multiple Raspberry Pi models the microSD card is backwards compatible.

What can I do with a Raspberry Pi?
The Raspberry Pi allows you to practise your computer programming especially for the Scratch and Python languages. It enables you to surf the web by plugging in a wireless USB dongle, embark upon electronic projects using the GPIO pins, connect a camera to the camera port or use it as a media centre to watch your favourite films.
